March 2025
Julie-Ann’s presentation on the use of felted wool was very informative and we were shown a fabulous array of her work and the journey to where she is now.
Julie-Ann showed us three wall hangings that she completed using felted wool and embroidered all designed by Sue Spargo.

Other items and embroideries which are still works in progress also designed by Sue Spargo. The last two were free projects that Sue Spargo released over the internet during covid lockdowns.

Julie-Ann showed quilts and table mats showing the use of felted wool instead of needle turn applique.

A project bag completed using felted wool and embroidery (pattern by Wendy Williams) and a trio of small panels ”Under the Greenwood Tree” completed while at a weekend course with Sue Spargo.

Show and Tell
Ros showed many items. There were two Japanese inspired table runners embroidered with bright variegated thread. A bag with mauve embroidery, another bag with fine, bright fabrics made into a Dresden plate and checkerboard. Then a receiving blanket, followed by a pink baby quilt with fussy cut flamingos, a blue one to follow. These are for the “hope chest”.

Janice had a baby “Aussie” cot quilt for her stash and another quilt made from the pentagons she was hand sewing at last years retreat. Simply stunning! Also, a quite large cross-stitch growth chart she finally completed.

Fiona is in the process of completing one of Margaret Goldman many UFO’s. A fabulous queen size brown and cream hexagon quilt, wedding gift for Jordan and Holly. It is a “Patchwork of the Crosses” by Lucy Boston.

Viive showed us 3 samples of embroidered bags that she will be doing a workshop on later this year- something to look forward to! It is called
Hitomeszashi Sashiko.

Sue showed 2 community quilts, tops made by Jill, quilted and given to members for binding. Also showed an Ovarian Cancer Quilt donation made from the “Bright Hope” Squares that were pieced mainly by Lynne.
